BREAK THAT HEART BABY

Ehn?! Calm dan, let’s walk together, and see a few things.

Many times, we are unable to do certain things because our ‘stakeholders’ do not approve. By stakeholders, I mean family, friends and even acquaintances. It does not matter if there’s a gentle tug on your heart, pulling you in a different direction. Our humanness makes us social creatures so we have norms, and we are expected to make choices in a uniform way. This is very okay for the natural man, not so for the one born of God’s Spirit. For the Spirits wind blows as it chooses. You can hear it’s sound, but you don’t know where it came from or where it is going. So it is within the hearts of those who are Spirit born. [TPT]

You know well enough how the wind blows this way and that. You hear it rustling through the trees, but you have no idea where it comes from or where it’s headed next. That’s the way it is with everyone ‘born from above’ by the wind of God, the Spirit of God. [MSG] John 3:8.

I had an experience of this recently; my primary place of assignment during my service year like most people, was a secondary school. Many people back home had a ready made reply after I would have answered their initial question of, ‘where’s your PPA?’ They’d go, ‘oh! That’s good. You have work to do on the students. You have to be deliberate you know, ‘ and on and on and I’d dutifully answer ‘yes ma’ & ‘yes sir’. As I settled in the environment, my heart was not drawn to the students, it was rather drawn to my colleagues -fellow corp members. It was a new experience for me, I had never felt so responsible for anyone or people as I did during this time. It was constantly on my heart and I had to look for a way to channel that tug on my heart. All of the people who felt I was to reach out to the students  meant well, they totally did. But they are not the Holy Spirit neither did they speak by the Spirit of God. They just thought, ‘oh, this is what you do when you find yourself in so and so situation’. And this happens a lot.

If you do a study on Jesus and his relationships with people, you’ll discover that He genuinely loved people but was not tied to their opinions. He lived, listening to what His Father  had on his mind and doing it. When people had expectations of him contrary to his Father’s will, he disappointed them, he broke their hearts. Mark 1:35-38  tells us Jesus ha gone out early to pray and people were looking for him, when he was done, he didn’t present himself to the people looking for him; he took his disciples to neighboring towns to preach. How rude of him! His disciples thought he was a political Messiah and He broke their hearts -He was not. There are many more examples that you can find out.

While you break hearts, don’t be bloody and messy about it. When asked about the greatest commandment, Jesus answered…the second is this: You must love your neighbor in the same way you love yourself, you will never find a greater commandment than these. Mark 12:31 Love is large and incredibly patient. Love is gentle and consistently kind to all. Love does not traffic in shame and disrespect nor selfishly seek it’s own honor. Love is not easily irritated or quick to take offense. 1Corinthians 13 paraphrased TPT
