ENTRANCE

Her arrival did more than just darken
His doorstep;
It darkened his whole life,
Starting from the threshold.
She came with words that tested sweet on the tongue,
But deposited stains of poison on his entrails,
Atherosclerotic plaques upon vascular lumens
Occluding channels that were meant to convey nutrient.
The chains glimmered and felt cool against His skin, at first.
She came with a smile that beckoned
And she, Darkness, brought blindness
To his soul.

His entrance into her brought light
The sudden awakening of a retina
That had since been rendered useless.
It brought understanding, elucidation, illumination.
She, the word of God gives understanding
And light to every simple soul that enters her.

The entrance of thy words giveth light; it giveth understanding unto the simple. Psalm 119:130
